Rock and Goal

Today is the first of my new set of sessions with Angela. I'm excited! We're doing weighing, measuring, the whole works.

It's kind of a shame that this session is coming right on the heels of a visit from my best friend. Although we did do a lot of walking and I even brought her to the gym with me as a guest, we also consumed a fair amount of alcohol and rich food. She emailed me when she got home and said her scale read, "Stop eating, you cow." Mine said something similar. So hopefully Angela can whip me back into shape.

I'd like to have at least the first few sessions focus on my cardio, to help me achieve my goal for the half-marathon. And I'm wearing the Goddess Jeans today, which I'm excited to point out to Angela. I haven't tried on a bikini yet--I'm kind of afraid to--and it looks like I'll be able to make the weight goal, although staying there is another matter.

There's some statistic about how long you keep of weight--something like, if you can maintain a certain weight for 6 months or a year or something, you're that much more likely to maintain it for life. Anyone know that statistic? If I can find it, I'll add it to my goals.

Hmm. Drs. Roizin and Oz say that your weight is most likely at its "factory setting" at age 18. So they posit if you get your weight to where it was at 18, you can maintain it. It's incredibly difficult to get your weight below that "factory setting" and maintain it, according to them.

Okay, Drs. Roizin and Oz are clearly delirious from the hunger resulting from maintaining their 18-year-old weights.

I don't know how much I weighed at age 18. I do know that the summer I got married, at age 25, I weighed 133 lbs. I AM FIVE FOOT TEN. And I am absolutley sure that at age 18 I did not weigh more than I did at age 25. Maybe the same, but not more.

And friends, I will never again weigh 133 lbs. I don't even WANT to weigh 133 lbs. And even if I did, there's no way I could maintain it, because at age 18 I had the metabolism of a hummingbird.

Harumph.

Holy heck! 133? I couldn't get there and I'm 5' 5"! Maybe that section of their book falls under "anecdotal evidence" rather than "rigorous scientific study."
